A Letter from Cheryl Chaddick
To all my fellow artists and dance patrons of First Street Studio, it has been an honor to have had the opportunity to create, present, teach, and meet new people. I have seen wonderful performances, classes, and workshops at the studio within these past 6-7 years.
During my 25 year career in San Francisco, I was fortunate to have had amazing support by Alonzo King, LINES faculty, and studio. Their invaluable help was instrumental in establishing two successful dance companies in my lifetime, Company Chaddick and Chaddick Dance Theater.
At LINES, I taught and rehearsed in gorgeous studios which gave me freedom and inspiration to find my own expression in dance. My dance mission was to bring personal and universal connections to my audiences with my art. Their belief in me gave me the courage to stay true to myself for which I am truly grateful.
In 2014 here in Austin, Katherine Hodges and I found a large hollow auto repair building where we envisioned and designed the now beautiful and professional dance studio, First Street Studio Inc. With a high ceiling, 1650 sq feet and a great location, we knew we had found the solution for our vision and personally an amazing home for Chaddick Dance Theater.
Our intention was to encourage performances, classes, and exploration (rehearsals) for those who wanted to create art.
As First Street Studio moves into its next incarnation, the time for me has come to step aside and pass the baton to Dorothy Overbey and AJ Garcia-Rameau. I know the studio’s next evolution will be wonderful and exciting metamorphosis because of their passion and amazing strength I have witnessed.
To all my incredible partners during the past several years of First Street Studio, thank you! It has been a wonderful adventure and blessing to have been the co-founder and owner of First Street Studio. It will always be in my heart.
Our originality lies in creating a human connection through dance.
